Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi of Odisha has instructed senior officials to ensure piped drinking water supply to all villages in the state by March 2027. During a review meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan, CM Majhi emphasized implementing the program in mission mode and completing projects on time to provide drinking water facilities to every village. Special attention was also directed towards tribal-dominated areas for piped drinking water facilities.
Out of the 46,531 villages in Odisha, 21,721 villages currently have access to piped drinking water supply. The state government is investing Rs 54,000 crore to achieve complete piped drinking water supply coverage, with Rs 32,128 crore allocated under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The remaining Rs 21,109 crore is being funded from the State’s resources.
The Chief Minister aims to finish all ongoing projects promptly and ensure piped water supply to every village by March 2027. Notably, several projects, including solar-powered schemes and mega drinking water projects, are at different stages of implementation. The state has seen significant progress, with 23 mega drinking water projects completed since June 2024, along with the installation of 26,137 tube wells across Odisha.
