The Odisha Police’s Crime Branch apprehended a 31-year-old cybercriminal from Bihar in connection with a Rs 2.06 crore investment fraud case. The accused, identified as Prins Raj from Begusarai district, was arrested following a complaint lodged by a businessman in Bhubaneswar. The victim stated that cyber fraudsters contacted him via WhatsApp, impersonating a fund manager and luring him to invest in the share market through a fake trading platform.
The fraudulent group, which offered free stock market advice and daily NIFTY technical analysis, managed to deceive the businessman into transferring Rs 2,06,07,500 across multiple transactions to accounts linked to the cybercriminals. Realizing the scam after failed withdrawal attempts, the victim reported the incident to the Cyber Crime Police Station. Subsequently, the police investigation led to the arrest of the accused, who had received Rs 40 lakh of the defrauded amount.
In a separate cyber fraud case, the Crime Branch arrested a couple, Himansu Prasad Karna and Sailendri Karna, from Angul district in connection with a Rs 1.55 crore investment scam. The fraudsters, through social media and a WhatsApp group, enticed the victim to invest in a fictitious online trading platform, resulting in the transfer of Rs 1,55,66,000 to multiple accounts as directed by the scammers.
