Odisha Police has implemented extensive security measures for the second BRICS Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Working Group Meeting in Puri, starting Wednesday. The event, scheduled from June 3 to 5, has gathered delegates from BRICS member and partner nations, marking a significant global engagement in Odisha.
The Director General of Police (DGP) Odisha, Y.B. Khurania, visited Puri to review security arrangements. He inspected the conference venue, accommodation facilities, movement routes, and key locations related to the event. Detailed discussions were held with senior police officers and district administration officials to ensure thorough security, coordination, and contingency readiness.
To safeguard the event, Odisha Police has deployed 10 platoons of armed police force, along with additional officers from various units. A comprehensive security plan covers the conference venue, delegate accommodations, transit routes, public areas, and sensitive spots. Strict access controls, anti-sabotage checks, and continuous surveillance are part of the multi-layered security setup.
Security personnel are stationed at entry and exit points, with advanced screening procedures in place. CCTV monitoring, intelligence-based surveillance, and technical measures are being used for real-time security updates. Special security arrangements have been made for delegate movements, with regular sanitization and monitoring of designated routes.
In light of Puri’s coastal location, coastal and maritime security measures have been intensified. The Coastal Security Wing and Marine Police are patrolling the coastline, enhancing surveillance to prevent sea-based threats. Coordination with central intelligence agencies and stakeholder departments has been strengthened to ensure emergency preparedness and swift response capabilities.
IGP (Central Range) Satyajit Naik emphasized Odisha Police’s commitment to providing a safe and professionally managed environment for all participants. Extensive planning, coordination, and resource deployment aim to ensure the smooth and incident-free conduct of the BRICS Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group Meeting in Puri.
