Odisha Police has launched a special enforcement drive on May 12 as directed by Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania to combat crime and criminal activities across the state. The operation, supervised by district Superintendents of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, aims to execute pending non-bailable warrants, arrest absconders, curb narcotics smuggling, seize illegal arms, check illegal mineral transportation, and enforce laws against drunk driving and other unlawful activities.
Under the direct supervision of Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, the special drive has led to the execution of 5,703 pending NBWs and the arrest of 520 accused individuals in various criminal cases. Additionally, 957 habitual offenders were booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), with action taken against 2,620 persons under Section 126 of the BNSS.
As part of the anti-narcotics efforts, police have registered 97 NDPS cases and arrested 137 individuals. Significant seizures include 7,398 kg of ganja, 586 grams of brown sugar, 220 grams of heroin, 219 litres of cough syrup, and 1,050 bottles of cough syrup, along with vehicles, mobile phones, pistols, and cash allegedly linked to drug trafficking.
