The Odisha government is set to introduce an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled Smart Surveillance System in all registration offices to combat middlemen activities and enhance transparency in land registration processes. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari, led a high-level meeting to review the implementation of this surveillance system under the Inspector General of Registration (IGR). The system aims to identify and penalize middlemen through advanced CCTV cameras and AI technology, ensuring a corruption-free registration process.
The Smart Surveillance System will extend to all Revenue Department offices, including Tahasil and Revenue Inspector (RI) offices, to monitor staff attendance, working hours, and field visits. It will also enhance fire safety measures and upgrade the Control Room’s capacity for real-time monitoring, making revenue administration more transparent and efficient. Minister Pujari emphasized the government’s commitment to eliminating middlemen influence in land transactions, ensuring a corruption-free and accountable revenue administration.
The initiative includes strengthening security at registration offices, granting additional powers to Registration Officers as needed to act as Executive Magistrates, and conducting periodic monitoring at the State Headquarters level. The system’s focus on officials’ performance and attendance, coupled with modern technologies, aims to create a citizen-centric and efficient revenue administration model. Efforts are underway to maintain a vigilant watch on activities in registration offices and uphold the integrity of the land registration process.
