Odisha Vigilance has apprehended a Livestock Inspector in Nabarangpur district for allegedly accepting a bribe from a beneficiary of the state’s Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana. The accused, identified as Prafulla Haldar, demanded Rs 80,000 from the beneficiary to release the subsidy under the scheme. He also threatened to block subsidies of other beneficiaries if the bribe was not paid.
The complainant, selected under the Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, reported the incident to the Vigilance authorities. In a planned operation, officials caught Haldar red-handed while accepting the bribe. The entire amount was recovered, and chemical tests confirmed his involvement with tainted currency notes.
Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were conducted at Haldar’s office and residence, leading to the seizure of cash totaling Rs 8.24 lakh. The origin of this money is currently under investigation. Odisha Vigilance has initiated further inquiries, and the accused will face legal proceedings under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
