Odisha Vigilance apprehended the main suspect, Pradip Kr Mohanty, a retired headmaster re-engaged at the BEO Office, and his wife Gitarani Mohanty, in connection with a ₹5.56 crore government fund misappropriation case. The couple, who had been evading authorities by moving between locations in Odisha and West Bengal, were captured by a vigilance team early Thursday morning.
Following suspicions that the accused pair might be in Kolkata, the Odisha Vigilance team swiftly headed there and conducted searches at suspected hideouts. Fearing potential police intervention, the duo left Kolkata on Wednesday night and sought refuge at a hotel in Charampa, Bhadrak district, Odisha, where they were apprehended early Thursday.
Currently, the couple is under interrogation regarding the case. Investigations have revealed that the embezzled funds were diverted to the personal accounts of Pradip Mohanty, his wife, their son Matruprasad Mohanty (arrested the previous day), and others, with the probe ongoing.
