The Odisha Vigilance arrested two public servants for allegedly misappropriating over Rs 30 lakh in government funds designated for beneficiaries of the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY). The accused officials, Sulamani Jani and Tuna Pradhan, were involved in systematic financial fraud, collectively diverting funds meant for vulnerable individuals under the MBPY.
An investigation by Odisha Vigilance uncovered that between 2022 and 2025, the accused officials exploited their positions to orchestrate the fraud. Jani and Pradhan misappropriated Rs 15,74,820 and Rs 15,03,800, respectively, intended for elderly, disabled, and destitute individuals by withholding the undisbursed amount for personal gain.
Cases have been registered against the accused individuals at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. In a separate incident, the Odisha Vigilance also arrested two engineers in Kotagarh block of Kandhamal district for misappropriating Rs 42 lakh in government funds meant for development projects under the MGNREGS.
