Officials from the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas revealed that flying squads conducted 330 inspections in the NCR from January 7 to 19, uncovering 90 pollution-related violations. These inspections targeted 241 industries, 22 diesel generator sets, and five construction and demolition sites. Additionally, 62 road stretches were scrutinized for road dust and waste accumulation, with a total of 90 violations identified across various sectors.
The Enforcement Task Force’s 124th meeting highlighted that enforcement actions, such as closures and sealing of DG sets, were recommended in 72 out of the 330 inspections. Notably, closure recommendations for nine ready mix concrete plants were also reviewed by the Commission. Furthermore, special inspection drives covering 150 road stretches were carried out, revealing varying levels of visible dust and prompting enforcement actions against non-compliant entities.
The Environment Ministry reported that special inspection drives were conducted on January 8 and January 13, encompassing 150 road stretches in Noida and Faridabad. Among these stretches, instances of high, moderate, and low dust levels were observed, leading to the issuance of notices for non-compliance with dust control measures. Moreover, a focused inspection drive in North Delhi on January 14 unveiled numerous incidents of biomass and municipal solid waste burning and dumping, underscoring the need for stringent environmental monitoring and enforcement measures.
As of the latest update, a total of 25,232 units, projects, and entities have undergone inspections, resulting in the issuance of 1,643 closure directions for violations. Following verification of compliance, 1,261 resumption orders have been issued, while 108 cases have been referred to the State Pollution Control Boards or the Delhi Pollution Control Committee for final decisions.
