Oman’s captain, Jatinder Singh, accepted defeat against Sri Lanka in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group B match. Sri Lanka’s strong performance led to a 105-run victory over Oman at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. Despite Mohammad Nadeem’s unbeaten 53, Oman could only manage 120/9 while chasing a challenging target of 226 set by Sri Lanka.
Reflecting on the match, Jatinder praised his team’s positive approach but admitted that Sri Lanka’s quality outshone them. He acknowledged that Sri Lanka’s total of 225 was too much for Oman to overcome. Sri Lanka’s aggressive batting, especially Dasun Shanaka’s quick fifty, put immense pressure on Oman, making the task even harder.
Jatinder recognized the disparity in experience between the two teams, emphasizing that Oman lacks exposure to top-tier cricket. He highlighted the limited opportunities for Associate teams like Oman to play against Full Member nations and participate in franchise tournaments. Despite the defeat, Jatinder expressed his team’s determination to improve and compete better in future global events.
