Oman Cricket has named Vinayak Shukla, an Indian-origin wicketkeeper-batter, as the new captain of the men’s national team. Shukla, previously the vice-captain, takes over from Jatinder Singh, who led Oman at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India.
Vinayak Shukla’s appointment as captain comes in recognition of his significant contributions to the team’s progress and achievements. The announcement of his new role was made by Oman Cricket through a social media post on Monday, marking the beginning of a fresh chapter in the country’s cricketing journey.
Born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, 32-year-old Vinayak Shukla has been representing Oman since 2024. He debuted in ODIs against Namibia on February 10, 2025, during the Asia Cup, and played his first T20I match against Qatar on December 14, 2024.
Shukla’s cricketing record includes eight ODIs where he scored 144 runs at an average of 24.00. In T20Is, he has participated in 13 matches, accumulating 288 runs with two half-centuries to his credit. His highest score in T20Is stands at 52 not out.
In pursuit of better opportunities, Vinayak Shukla relocated to Oman in 2021 based on recommendations from one of his coaches. Initially working as a Data operator at National Metal Cans to support his living expenses, Shukla’s journey reflects dedication and perseverance in his cricketing career.
