J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced that he will expand and reshuffle his cabinet before a planned protest for statehood restoration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. He mentioned that two significant political events are on the horizon in Jammu and Kashmir. The National Conference is currently devising its strategy for the upcoming Jantar Mantar protest in New Delhi regarding the restoration of the region’s statehood.
The Chief Minister confirmed that the Cabinet expansion and reshuffle will occur prior to the protest in Delhi. A crucial meeting is scheduled today under the leadership of party president Farooq Abdullah in Srinagar. Senior party members will attend to finalize the party’s approach for the Jantar Mantar protest and select representatives for the demonstration during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Regarding the cabinet changes, Omar highlighted that the process will be completed before the Delhi protest. This decision followed discussions at the recent Dachigam meeting, where the necessity to strengthen the government’s operations through a reshuffle was recognized. The upcoming reshuffle will mark the first significant change in the Omar-led government since its inception.
There has been mounting pressure on the Chief Minister due to concerns that some ministers in his cabinet are not responsive to MLAs. During the Dachigam meeting on June 3, several NC MLAs expressed discontent, stating that certain ministers were neglecting public issues raised by the MLAs, leading to a growing divide between the ruling party and the public.
