Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, announced plans to travel to Delhi on July 19, despite potential denial of permission for a protest at Jantar Mantar. The National Conference (NC) intends to hold a demonstration on July 20, coinciding with the start of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, to advocate for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Omar Abdullah emphasized the party’s unwavering stance on reclaiming Jammu and Kashmir’s “snatched rights” while addressing reporters in Srinagar. He affirmed the party’s commitment to proceed with its political activities, even during challenging times such as Dr. Mustafa Kamal’s illness on July 11.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the NC’s scheduled programs, including the July 20 protest, will proceed as planned, regardless of permission status. He stressed the importance of persisting with their advocacy efforts, citing the party’s determination to uphold its objectives.
Various groups of migrant Kashmiri Pandits have also declared their intention to stage a protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20, advocating for statehood post their rehabilitation. However, NC MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has opted out of participating in the NC’s Jantar Mantar protest.
Senior separatist leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, welcomed the initiatives but suggested that the demands should also encompass a permanent resolution to the Kashmir issue.
