Police in Kolkata have detained a person following an explosion in a house in the Rajarhat area on the outskirts of the city. The main suspect, Md Shamim alias Salim, from North 24 Parganas district, was apprehended after being on the run. The explosion occurred in a house in Dakshin Narayanpur, resulting in one person being injured.
Authorities reported that the blast happened after an individual brought a white bag into a rented room in the house. Moments after leaving the bag and exiting the room, the explosion occurred. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras. The police detained a suspect on Saturday and initiated an investigation.
The West Bengal Fire Services Department, the State Police’s Special Task Force, and the bomb squad were deployed to the site for further examination. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is expected to conduct an inquiry at the location. The explosion was caused by a bomb, and remnants of bomb strings were found at the scene, raising suspicions of premeditation.
Initial findings suggest that two individuals had recently rented the house, informing the owner that they would only be present at night. Witnesses mentioned seeing a man carrying a white bag into the house before the explosion occurred. The blast severely damaged two rooms and injured a person in an adjacent room, who has been hospitalized.
