Union Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurated a White Rabbit Technology-based Indian Standard Time dissemination network at the Regional Reference Standard Laboratory in Bengaluru. This network ensures the secure distribution of UTC (NPLI)-traceable Indian Standard Time using Precision Time Protocol (PTP)-based White Rabbit technology. It offers precise, secure, and resilient time synchronization for critical sectors such as banking, telecommunications, power systems, transportation, and digital governance.
The collaboration between the Department of Consumer Affairs, CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, and the Indian Space Research Organisation led to the development of this network. Minister Joshi emphasized the significance of accurate and secure dissemination of Indian Standard Time as a crucial digital public infrastructure for the nation. He highlighted that a reliable national time source would enhance consumer protection, promote fair trade, boost cyber resilience, ensure financial market reliability, and strengthen digital governance.
Furthermore, Minister Joshi mentioned the successful verification of secure Indian Standard Time dissemination between RRSL Bengaluru and NSE Chennai in partnership with CSIR-NPL, ISRO, SEBI, NSE, BSNL, and other stakeholders. During his visit to ISRO Bengaluru, he assessed the progress of the Indian Standard Time Dissemination Project, a joint effort by the Department of Consumer Affairs, CSIR-NPL, ISRO, and other institutions. He commended ISRO for its role in creating an indigenous, secure, and resilient time dissemination infrastructure.
Appreciating ISRO’s collaboration with the Department of Consumer Affairs and CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, Minister Joshi acknowledged their contribution to the government’s “One Nation, One Time” initiative.
