Cyberabad police successfully rescued a one-month-old baby girl who was abducted from Lingampally Railway Station on June 30 and later sold to a childless woman in Kolkata for Rs 1.5 lakh. The police arrested five individuals involved in this inter-state gang of offenders. The rescued infant was handed over to her biological mother by Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr. M. Ramesh on Friday.
The baby girl was taken while she was sleeping in her mother Malan Bourav Shantha Bai’s lap at Lungampally Railway Station. Malan Bai, a circus worker from Bidar district, Karnataka, reported that unknown offenders snatched her daughter while she was sleeping on the pavement near the station wall with her circus group. Despite her efforts to chase the offenders, they managed to escape in an auto-rickshaw upon hearing the baby’s cries.
Following the complaint, a case was registered at Chandanagar under specific sections of the law. Three police teams, led by ACP RC Puram Division CH. Y. Srinivas, were formed to locate the kidnapped infant. After three days of extensive investigation, involving the analysis of numerous CCTV footages in different areas, the police successfully apprehended all the accused and recovered the kidnapped baby.
The arrested individuals include kidnappers Mohemmed Zuber and Mohamed Irfan from Telangana, along with Saadequa Maqsood alias Naziya, Nimmi Jahan Ali alias Seema Ali from Kolkata, and Rahanuma Ali, who had purchased the infant. Investigation revealed that Rehnuma Ali, a childless woman from Kolkata, had requested her aunt and others to arrange a baby for adoption in exchange for payment.
Further findings indicated that the accused individuals conspired to kidnap and sell the infant for financial gain. The baby was taken to the house of Naziya after the kidnapping, and the transaction was completed with Rehnuma Ali paying Rs 1.50 lakh for the illegal sale. The police managed to apprehend all the accused before they could escape with the child to Kolkata, ensuring the safe return of the baby to her biological mother.
The swift and efficient actions of the police resulted in the dismantling of an interstate child trafficking and kidnapping operation, showcasing the importance of coordinated efforts in combating such criminal activities.
