The newly arrested suspect, known as Shahenshah, is accused of assisting the primary suspect, Mohammad Shamim, in obtaining a rented room using false identification. Mohammad Shamim was taken into custody on Saturday from Sodepur in North 24 Parganas district.
Shahenshah was detained following extensive questioning, raising the total arrests to two in this case. Following the incident, officers from the Narayanpur police station initiated an inquiry and detained two individuals. Subsequently, the bomb squad discovered two additional live bombs at the site. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has since taken over the investigation, with forensic experts also examining the scene to determine the cause and origin of the explosion.
Investigations revealed that the property owner where the explosion transpired is Zulfiqar Ali. Reportedly, a person named Mohammad Shamim had recently rented the house through a broker named Shahenshah. Authorities are currently searching for another individual suspected of involvement in the incident. Meanwhile, Rajarhat New Town MLA Piyush Kanodia visited the site to interact with local residents and offer assistance.
“A reign of terror has been created in this entire area to scare people. Whoever has ruled here for so many years has destroyed the entire area. I want to give everyone one message — we don’t want terrorism, we want education. We will not accept machine guns or guns being handed over to anyone. We want to hand over books and pens to the youth,” stated the BJP MLA.
