Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) reported significant advancements in managing the blowout at a well in Andhra Pradesh’s Dr B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. The fire intensity, noise levels, and ambient heat near the well in Irusumanda Village, Malkipuram Mandal, have notably decreased. ONGC is actively engaged in targeted blowout control at Well Mori-5, operated by PEC contractor M/s Deep Industries.
The Crisis Management Team is executing operations as per the approved blowout control plan, as stated by the state-owned oil and gas company. An access road from the rear of the wellsite has been finished to aid in debris removal, with logistics in place for systematic cleanup. A water blanket has been deployed at the wellsite to assist in debris removal and prepare for capping the wellhead.
Due to the progress made and minimal risk of escalation, the district administration has advised residents in the vicinity to resume normal activities. ONGC emphasizes community safety and environmental protection as top priorities, ensuring all activities adhere strictly to regulations and industry standards. The incident occurred during repair work when a blowout released a large volume of gas mixed with crude oil, causing concern among locals.
Authorities relocated over 500 individuals to relief camps as a precautionary measure, although no injuries or fatalities were reported. The well is situated in a remote area with no human settlements within a radius of 500-600 meters.
