OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT Health, a new platform aimed at securely linking individuals’ medical records and wellness applications. This initiative, developed in collaboration with over 260 physicians from 60 countries, enables users to ground their conversations in personal health data for more relevant and beneficial responses. The tool is designed to empower individuals in understanding and managing their health and wellness, complementing rather than replacing medical care.
The introduction of ChatGPT Health responds to a significant demand for health-related inquiries on ChatGPT, with more than 230 million global users seeking health and wellness guidance weekly. Despite its popularity, OpenAI emphasizes that the feature is intended to assist rather than substitute medical professionals. It serves as a resource for everyday health inquiries, aiding users in recognizing patterns over time and facilitating informed discussions with healthcare providers.
With ChatGPT Health, users can securely link their medical records and wellness apps, such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal. This integration allows individuals to interpret test results, prepare for medical appointments, receive guidance on diet and exercise routines, and evaluate insurance options based on healthcare trends. OpenAI has implemented stringent measures to safeguard sensitive health data, including the ability for users to delete chats from the system within 30 days and encryption of conversations and files by default.
The rollout of ChatGPT Health will initially target a select group of early users for feedback and enhancements. Eligible users with ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside of specific regions will have access to this feature. OpenAI plans to expand availability in the future, making Health accessible to all web and iOS users. Notably, medical record integrations and certain apps are currently limited to the US, with Apple Health connectivity requiring iOS devices.
