The aftermath of Operation Sindoor, conducted by Indian armed forces in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack, has visibly boosted the morale of the Pakistan Army. Despite Pakistan’s false claims of victory, the operation’s effects have rippled through all security forces in the country.
Following the operation, Asim Munir’s promotion to Field Marshal was seen as a strategic move to convey strength to the army. This elevation, the second in Pakistan’s history, was orchestrated by Munir to project a sense of victory post-Operation Sindoor.
Munir’s actions, including the military spending increase of 18% for 2026, were aimed at uplifting the morale of security forces battling groups like the BLA and TTP. This surge in defense expenditure, totaling PKR three trillion, reflects a significant portion of Pakistan’s federal budget.
The rise in military spending, despite economic challenges, led to cuts in public welfare programs and redirected funds from provincial development projects to defense. This shift in budget priorities has burdened the common Pakistani with increased taxes and the removal of energy subsidies.
To offset the budget deficit, defense personnel received a 25% pay hike across all ranks, approved by Munir to maintain their satisfaction. These measures, while attempting to boost morale, are perceived as compensatory actions following the setback of Operation Sindoor.
