The opposition CPI (M) in Tripura has escalated its demands for a judicial investigation into the death of Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag. Two delegations from the CPI (M) met with the Governor to submit memoranda seeking a fair and impartial probe supervised by a sitting judge from the Tripura High Court. This call for a judicial inquiry follows similar demands from the Congress party, questioning the circumstances surrounding the DGP’s death.

The Leader of the Opposition, Jitendra Chaudhury, expressed concerns over the investigation led by the local police team and emphasized the need for an independent inquiry. Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar highlighted the public’s demand for transparency and fairness in uncovering the truth behind the “unexpected, unnatural, and unbelievable” death of the state’s police chief. Both leaders stressed the importance of a thorough investigation to address the doubts surrounding the incident.

Sarkar pointed out that the involvement of a sitting judge from the Tripura High Court in overseeing the inquiry would ensure credibility and transparency. The CPI (M) leaders urged the Governor to intervene and reconstitute a high-level committee supervised by a judge to facilitate a transparent investigation process. The Governor acknowledged the gravity of the situation and the need for a comprehensive examination into the DGP’s death, emphasizing the importance of restoring public trust in the investigative process.
