The Opposition in Bihar has escalated its criticism against the state government for the alleged rampant liquor smuggling despite the prohibition in place. RJD MLA Bhai Virendra highlighted that the ban on liquor seems to be only on paper, with illegal liquor sales, including spurious liquor, thriving unchecked throughout the state. He raised concerns about the inflow of large quantities of liquor from neighboring states daily, questioning the effectiveness of the administration and law enforcement.
Bhai Virendra, responding to Chirag Paswan’s previous warnings regarding toxic liquor incidents, accused officials of being complicit in the smuggling activities. He emphasized that the cross-border movement of liquor indicates the involvement of certain government personnel, suggesting a lack of stringent enforcement measures. The MLA also expressed worries about the escalating consumption of locally brewed and harmful liquor among youths, endangering their future prospects.
In addition to the liquor issue, Bhai Virendra strongly condemned the recent police action against protesting Chowkidars and Dafadars in Patna. Describing the lathi charge as brutal and inhumane, he demanded justice for the demonstrators and criticized the government’s handling of the situation. The Grand Alliance has brought this matter to the forefront in the Bihar Assembly, urging authorities to address the grievances of the protesting employees promptly.
