Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, Pinarayi Vijayan, has urged for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into alleged financial irregularities in donations for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Vijayan expressed serious concerns over reported financial misconduct, questioning the misuse of public faith and religious sentiments.
Vijayan accused those leveraging public devotion for political benefits of engaging in organized financial fraud. He highlighted the close ties between the trustees of the Ayodhya Ram Temple Trust and Sangh Parivar-affiliated organizations, demanding transparency on the utilization of funds collected from devotees.
The Opposition leader emphasized the public’s right to transparency regarding donation expenditure. He called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the allegations, given his significant role in the temple’s consecration ceremony. Vijayan stressed the need for accountability and transparency, especially as the trust’s credibility is under scrutiny.
Alleging that the temple funds controversy exposes the true nature of Sangh Parivar politics, Vijayan underscored the exploitation of public faith for both political and financial gains. He advocated for an impartial inquiry, urging the Central government to initiate a high-level investigation overseen by the Supreme Court to restore devotees’ trust.
Vijayan’s statements on social media have injected a fresh political angle into the ongoing debate surrounding the management of donations for the Ayodhya Ram Temple construction. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) handling the case has already arrested eight individuals.
