Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan criticized Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for rushing the proposed Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project without thorough studies. Satheesan accused the government of making hasty announcements as its term nears completion.
Satheesan highlighted the government’s alleged insistence on publicity-driven projects and criticized its approach towards E. Sreedharan, who was previously involved in the Kochi Metro project. He emphasized the importance of well-researched infrastructure projects for Kerala’s development.
The Opposition Leader clarified that while he supports beneficial projects like a high-speed rail corridor, they should be implemented based on comprehensive studies. He expressed concerns that the RRTS proposal seemed more like an election tactic rather than a well-thought-out plan for the state’s transportation needs.
Satheesan pointed out that experts, including E. Sreedharan, have suggested that a high-speed railway might be more suitable for Kerala than the proposed rapid rail system. He criticized the government for lacking proper evaluation processes and emphasized the need for accountable and sustainable development initiatives.
