Leader of the Opposition in Punjab, Partap Singh Bajwa, stated that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was compelled to arrest its former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar following pressure from the Opposition. Bajwa credited Congress workers and Members of Parliament for raising the issue, leading to national attention.
He emphasized that Bhullar’s arrest was not voluntary but a result of external pressure. Bajwa alleged that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann acted only after Union Home Minister Amit Shah hinted at a possible CBI inquiry into the matter. Bajwa personally appealed to the Chief Justice of India for a court-monitored investigation to ensure justice and transparency.
Bajwa held CM Mann accountable for the tragic death of officer Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, linking it to Minister Bhullar’s actions. Despite complaints of harassment against Bhullar, no action was taken, ultimately resulting in Randhawa’s death. Bajwa stressed the need for truth and accountability, regardless of the individuals involved.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal also urged a CBI probe into Randhawa’s death, citing physical and mental harassment by Laljit Bhullar. Badal emphasized the importance of an impartial investigation by an independent agency to restore trust among the victim’s family and the public.
