Opposition leaders walked out of an all-party meeting to oppose the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) members’ attendance, calling it unconstitutional and a threat to democracy. The NCPI was labeled as an unrecognized political party by the Opposition. Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy expressed concerns over the presence of the NCPI, questioning the rationale behind their invitation to the meeting.
Addressing reporters, Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav criticized the government for inviting a group of 20 MPs who broke away from the Trinamool Congress, despite the party having 28 MPs as per official records. He deemed the government’s actions undemocratic and unconstitutional. Opposition members united in their stance against what they perceive as the government’s assault on democracy.
CPI MP P. Sandosh Kumar condemned the Lok Sabha Speaker and Parliamentary Affairs Minister for allowing Trinamool Congress dissidents to participate in the meeting, denouncing it as undemocratic. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari raised questions about the legitimacy of recognizing a separate bloc within the Trinamool Congress before any official decision had been made. JMM MP Mahua Maji highlighted the systematic dismantling of political parties through unethical means.
AAP MP N. D. Gupta criticized the alleged hijacking of seven out of their ten Rajya Sabha MPs, emphasizing the pending decision on the matter. He accused the government of undermining democracy through such actions, labeling it as a hijack. Opposition members expressed solidarity against what they perceive as a threat to democratic principles.
