Opposition parties in Telangana, including Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have strongly criticized the demolition of an ancient Shiva temple in Warangal district. BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao expressed outrage over the destruction, calling for the immediate restoration of the temple. He criticized the state government for its lack of regard for Telangana’s historical and cultural heritage.
The BJP also denounced the demolition, highlighting the temple’s significance as a symbol of Telangana’s rich history and culture. The party criticized the Congress government for neglecting the state’s heritage wealth and allowing the temple, built during the Kakatiya emperor Ganapati Deva’s reign, to be demolished. The BJP raised concerns over the lack of security for government-protected historical structures under the current administration.
The Ministry of Culture and Archaeology Department of the Government of India has initiated action in response to the temple’s demolition. A complaint has been filed with the National Monuments Authority regarding the incident. The temple, which housed a rare inscription dating back to February 1231 A.D., was reportedly demolished to make way for an Integrated School. The temple complex was part of the historic “Kota Katta” mud fort region, surrounded by ancient ponds and fortifications.
