Opposition leaders have raised concerns over Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s recent statement warning Pakistan that the flow of Indus water to “terror patrons” will be halted. Singh, speaking at an event in Hyderabad, emphasized India’s stance on linking water supply to Pakistan’s actions following terror attacks. Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai criticized the government’s contradictory actions, highlighting a lack of trust in their statements.
JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey echoed similar sentiments, accusing the government of maintaining close ties with Pakistan despite public declarations of halting water supply. In contrast, BJP National Spokesperson R. P. Singh supported the Defence Minister’s stance, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to diverting all Indus water away from Pakistan.
Singh emphasized the strategic importance of withholding water from Pakistan, aligning with Modi’s previous assertion that “blood and water cannot flow together.” The Defence Minister also praised India’s approach during Operation Sindoor as a demonstration of responding to adversaries with force. India recently reiterated its position on the Indus Water Treaty, emphasizing its suspension until Pakistan ceases cross-border terrorism.
