Over 1.13 lakh devotees visited the Amarnath cave shrine in the past five days as part of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra. A new group of 9,837 yatris departed from Jammu to Kashmir for the pilgrimage. The pilgrims were divided into convoys heading to the base camps of Baltal and Nunwan.
The 7th batch of pilgrims, consisting of 9,837 individuals, left from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu. They were transported in two escorted convoys to the base camps. The pilgrims were divided between the Baltal and Pahalgam convoys, with a total of 361 vehicles deployed for the day’s journey.
The yatris included men, women, children, sadhus, sadhvis, and transgender devotees. Those who visited the shrine on Tuesday began returning to the Baltal base camp the same evening. Authorities have implemented strict measures to prevent unregistered pilgrims from gathering at the base camps.
Yatris can choose between the traditional Pahalgam route or the shorter Baltal route to reach the cave shrine located at 3880 meters above sea level in the Kashmir Himalayas. The Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to conclude on August 28, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals.
