More than 50 devotees were rescued from a dangerous situation at Gurudwara Shri Reetha Sahib in Uttarakhand during the annual ‘Jod Mela’. The devotees, who had gathered for the fair commemorating Guru Nanak Dev’s visit, faced peril as water levels suddenly rose while they were bathing in the Ladhiya river. Swift action by disaster response teams prevented a tragedy, ensuring the safety of all stranded individuals.
The incident took place at the historic Gurudwara in Champawat district, where heavy rainfall caused a sudden increase in the water level of the Ladhiya river. Eyewitnesses reported that devotees were bathing in the river before the water surge forced them to seek refuge on a small structure in the middle of the river. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team acted promptly, rescuing the devotees and guiding stranded vehicles to safety.
SDRF Commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi highlighted the effective deployment of the team due to the large crowd at the fair and potential risks posed by the weather. The joint efforts of the SDRF, local police, and district administration ensured the safe rescue of all individuals without any casualties. The rescue operation showcased the team’s professionalism and commitment to swift emergency response.
