More than 61% of the 2.39 lakh voters participated in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation election, which had 19 members. The polling, which took place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., saw no major incidents reported. A total of 68 candidates, including 28 women, contested in the election.

Election authorities, in collaboration with the state police, ensured a fair and transparent polling process. The Mizoram government had declared a public holiday in the corporation areas to facilitate voting. Nearly 94% of senior citizens, Persons with Disabilities, and those with chronic illnesses utilized the home voting facility.

The candidates, representing four major political parties, vied for seats in the civic body. The ruling Zoram People’s Movement, the main Opposition Mizo National Front, and the Congress each fielded 19 candidates, while the Bharatiya Janata Party nominated 11 candidates. In the previous election, the Mizo National Front emerged victorious with 11 seats.
