More than 700 drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol during a weekend special drive by the traffic police in Hyderabad and Cyberabad. Hyderabad Traffic Police nabbed 445 drivers, while Cyberabad apprehended 283 offenders. The drive aimed to enhance road safety and crack down on drunken driving.
During the two-day special operation on May 1 and 2, Hyderabad Traffic Police caught a total of 445 drivers under the influence of alcohol. The offenders included 371 two-wheeler riders, 26 three-wheeler riders, and 48 four-wheeler drivers. Offenders were classified based on their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels, with varying degrees of intoxication detected.
The Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic) reported that BAC levels among the offenders ranged from 30-50 mg/100 ml to over 300 mg/100 ml. The authorities emphasized zero tolerance for drunk driving violations and assured the continuation of special drives. Commuters were urged to cooperate with the traffic police to ensure road safety.
Cyberabad Traffic Police also conducted a special enforcement drive against drunk driving, resulting in the capture of 283 offenders over the weekend. Among the offenders, 227 were riding two-wheelers, nine on three-wheelers, 39 in four-wheelers, and eight in heavy vehicles. Offenders were found with varying BAC levels, leading to their imminent court appearances.
Additional Commissioner of Police, G. Hanmantha Rao, stated that all offenders would be presented before the court for legal proceedings. Cyberabad Police reiterated the severity of driving under the influence of alcohol, warning of strict consequences for those causing accidents while intoxicated. Recent court records show that numerous drunk driving cases have been addressed, with penalties ranging from fines to social service.
