Pakistan revealed their squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, with Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi making a return. Babar Azam, the leading run-scorer in Men’s T20Is, brings experience to the batting lineup, while Haris Rauf, who excelled in the Big Bash League, has been left out.
Salman Agha will captain the team, with several newcomers like Faheem Ashraf and Usman Tariq earning their first call-ups. The squad also features familiar faces such as Fakhar Zaman and Shaheen Shah Afridi, forming a strong batting unit.
In the pace department, Pakistan will rely on Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah in the absence of Haris Rauf. The team also boasts all-rounders like Faheem Ashraf and Shadab Khan, providing versatility with both bat and ball.
Pakistan, the 2009 champions, are placed in Group A alongside India, the Netherlands, the USA, and Namibia. They will begin their campaign against the Netherlands on February 7 in Colombo.
The squad announcement follows PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi’s statement that a final decision on Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup would be made after consulting the government.
