Pakistan cricket authorities are planning to levy a substantial fine of five million rupees on male cricketers who underperformed, following the team’s elimination in the Super Eight round in Sri Lanka. The decision comes after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expressed disappointment over the team’s performance and certain decisions made during a match against India on February 15. PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi, who was present at the stadium during the game, observed the team’s struggle under pressure and criticized the captain’s choices, leading to the decision to penalize the players.
The move is considered unprecedented, with sources indicating that each player may have already been fined the stipulated amount, although this has not been officially confirmed. This action follows Pakistan’s previous failures in major tournaments, such as the 2024 World Cup and the Champions Trophy last year, prompting the board to take strict measures against the players. Additionally, after the team’s poor performance in the Champions Trophy, players were downgraded, with no A-category assignments from the PCB.
Players falling under different categories receive varying monthly salaries and shares from ICC revenue. A-category players, who were not assigned last year, typically earn 4.5 million rupees monthly along with additional revenue from ICC. B, C, and D category players receive lower monthly salaries and shares from ICC, based on their respective categories.
