Pakistan has been fined 40% of their match fee and docked eight ICC World Test Championship points for a slow over-rate during the first Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka. This penalty has caused Pakistan to drop to eighth place in the standings, just ahead of the West Indies.
The sanction was imposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees after Pakistan fell short by eight overs. As per the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined five percent of their match fee for each over not bowled in the allotted time. Additionally, under the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, Pakistan lost eight points for the shortfall. Pakistan’s captain, Shan Masood, admitted to the offense and accepted the penalty without the need for a formal hearing.
Bangladesh achieved their first Test victory over Pakistan at home, winning by 104 runs with Nahid Rana’s exceptional five-wicket haul. After setting a target of 268, Bangladesh’s bowlers dominated, restricting Pakistan to 163 runs. This victory propelled Bangladesh to sixth place in the ICC World Test Championship standings, surpassing both Pakistan and England.
