Dozens of AI-generated videos and images associated with Pakistan’s security establishment have inundated social media in Pakistan, aiming to stoke communal tensions and spread false narratives against India, as per a media report. The International Business Times highlighted that these viral posts were traced back to accounts linked to Pakistan’s military and intelligence setup. Fact-checkers have exposed manipulated clips with audiovisual anomalies and misaligned lip-sync, designed to mimic news formats.
The report expressed concerns over this trend impacting regional stability and Pakistan’s information ecosystem, emphasizing the need for international vigilance to counter the spread of mass disinformation on social platforms. Examples cited include AI-generated videos featuring Indian Air Force and Army chiefs making critical or inflammatory remarks. Notably, the report flagged the ‘PakVocals’ account, followed by Pakistan’s Information and Broadcasting Minister, indicating possible high-level interest or endorsement.
Moreover, the report highlighted a coordinated dissemination approach involving rapid post deletions and network amplification, suggesting a managed influence operation rather than random activity. Pakistani officials have acknowledged the issue of organized disinformation, despite publicly accusing others of the same. The disinformation campaign has even distorted international events, such as the Israel-Iran conflict in 2025, with Pakistani news outlets unknowingly airing AI-manipulated videos.
