The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to kick off on March 26 as planned, but with a twist. Due to the need to conserve resources like petrol amid the Gulf war, the tournament will take place only at two venues and without any spectators. Pakistan cricket chief Mohsin Naqvi made this announcement following discussions with the franchises and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Naqvi emphasized the importance of maintaining the league’s credibility and the lack of flexibility to reschedule the event. The revised PSL schedule will focus on matches in Lahore and Karachi, excluding venues like Peshawar, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad to minimize fuel consumption and resource usage.

Acknowledging the disappointment of fans in Peshawar, Naqvi expressed hope for more matches in the future. The decision to cancel the grand opening ceremony was made to further conserve resources. International players are expected to arrive early to gear up for the matches, despite earlier concerns about travel challenges through the Gulf region.

Naqvi issued a warning to foreign players considering abandoning their PSL contracts for more lucrative offers from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Notably, Blessing Muzarabani from Zimbabwe and Dasun Shanaka from Sri Lanka opted for the IPL after initially signing with PSL teams. Additionally, all franchises will receive financial compensation for the loss of gate revenue due to the absence of live audiences.
