Pakistan’s Fatima Sana will make history as the first player from her country to play in the women’s Hundred after being signed by Birmingham Phoenix in the wildcard draft. She will fill the fourth overseas slot left vacant by Lucy Hamilton, who withdrew due to workload management. Fatima, a seam-bowling all-rounder, is set to receive 15,000 pounds for her participation in The Hundred, although her availability may be impacted by Pakistan’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
Her selection follows a remarkable performance where she excelled in both batting and bowling during Pakistan’s match against South Africa in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at Edgbaston, the home ground of Birmingham Phoenix. Fatima scored an unbeaten 55 off 38 balls and took 3-16, despite Pakistan’s narrow two-wicket loss to South Africa.
Fatima will join two other Pakistani players in the Hundred this season, including spinners Usman Tariq and Abrar Ahmed. Birmingham Phoenix’s Performance Director, James Thomas, praised the signing of Fatima Sana, highlighting her leadership as Pakistan’s captain and her skills as a pace bowler. Additionally, the team has also secured the services of all-rounder Mary Taylor through the wildcard draft.
Scotland’s Darcey Carter and Katherine Fraser have also secured deals in The Hundred, signing with Sunrisers Leeds and Southern Brave, respectively. The tournament is scheduled to take place from July 21 to August 16, marking the first season under private ownership of franchises following last year’s team stake sales.
