The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly criticized the 1,000-day detention of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, denouncing it as a clear case of political victimization. PTI’s Central Information Secretary, Waqas Akram, expressed concerns over the treatment of Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, labeling it as inhumane and a violation of their rights. The Islamabad High Court recently addressed appeals related to the 190 million pounds case involving Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, with the defense raising issues of solitary confinement and health problems during the proceedings.
PTI founder Imran Khan, according to PTI’s statement, is reportedly facing political victimization due to his popularity and independent stance, which the current government perceives as a threat. Akram highlighted that Imran Khan is being held in solitary confinement, with restrictions on visits from family, lawyers, and party members, further exacerbating concerns about his well-being. Barrister Salman Safdar, representing Imran Khan, emphasized the deteriorating health conditions of the former Prime Minister, including significant eyesight issues, during a recent court hearing.
Imran Khan’s son, Kasim Khan, raised international concerns over his father’s detention, describing it as arbitrary and in violation of human rights conventions. Kasim Khan addressed the United Nations Human Rights Council, shedding light on the broader pattern of repression in Pakistan and the alleged irregularities in the 2024 general elections. He emphasized the denial of medical care to Imran Khan and the implications of trying civilians in military courts, urging for adherence to international human rights standards.
