Pakistan’s PTI-led government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has accused the federal government of withholding adequate medical care from former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi. The provincial leaders claim that the authorities are impeding access for family members and party officials, alleging a violation of their rights. Addressing the media, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan expressed concerns over Khan’s prolonged eye ailment and the lack of improvement in his vision.
The minister revealed that both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were taken to a hospital at night in a manner that breached jail regulations. Despite reports of a three-hour treatment session, no verified medical information has been shared with the party. Jan urged the authorities to allow the couple to consult their personal doctors and transfer them to Shifa International Hospital for comprehensive medical care. He also criticized the alleged preferential treatment given to other political figures in contrast to Khan’s situation.
Jan highlighted the unequal treatment of political leaders, citing the contrasting facilities provided to Nawaz Sharif during his incarceration. He accused the government of flouting court orders by restricting meetings with Khan, which he deemed as contempt of court. Additionally, the minister criticized the federal government for the country’s economic challenges, including soaring inflation, rising unemployment rates, and increased fuel prices that are burdening the public.
