Emphasizing the decline of “international law and multilateralism,” Palestinian Ambassador to India, Abdullah Abu Shawesh criticized US President Donald Trump for labeling Pope Leo XIV as “weak.” Shawesh expressed concern over Trump’s decision to block the Strait of Hormuz, stating that it would not only impact Iran but also the global community.
Trump recently launched a scathing attack on Pope Leo XIV, accusing him of being “weak on crime” and criticizing his foreign policy stance, particularly on Iran and US domestic issues. Shawesh highlighted the significance of criticizing a figure like the Pope, indicating a further deterioration of international rules and laws.
Regarding Trump’s approach towards Iran and the security situation in West Asia, Shawesh pointed out that the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would have repercussions beyond Iran, affecting the international community as a whole. He questioned the value of blocking the strait, emphasizing its importance for the global community.
Shawesh criticized Trump for his actions against Iran, stating that the US President’s decisions have not only impacted the Palestinian cause but have also harmed the broader international community. He emphasized the negative consequences of Trump’s policies, including moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem, which violates international law and his recent actions against Iran.
The Palestinian Ambassador highlighted the impact of the US blocking the Strait of Hormuz, noting that nations reliant on oil exports would suffer as a result. The strait, a vital oil transit route, facilitates nearly a fifth of global oil shipments, and its closure would have severe economic implications for oil-producing countries.
