The Patna High Court, on Monday, addressed a criminal writ petition filed by the father of a NEET aspirant who passed away under suspicious circumstances at a girls’ hostel in Patna. The Bihar government informed the court that the investigation has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Justice Arun Kumar Jha, presiding over the case, noted that with the transfer to the CBI, further intervention is unnecessary at this stage.

The court emphasized that if any deficiencies are identified in the CBI’s investigation, the petitioner retains the right to approach the court again. The Bihar government updated the court during the hearing that the CBI is set to conduct a thorough investigation and present its findings in due course. The matter was expedited following a request for an urgent hearing before Justice Arun Kumar Jha.

The petition involved various officials as respondents, including the Principal Secretaries of the Home and Health Departments, the Director General of Police (DGP), Patna SSP, and the Station House Officer of Chitragupta Nagar police station. Additionally, the owner of Shambhu Girls’ Hostel and three private hospitals were named as respondents. The deceased girl’s father, hailing from Jehanabad, sought justice from the High Court, highlighting his daughter’s demise on January 11, 2026, while preparing for the NEET exam.
