In a significant move to bolster law enforcement and uphold Bihar’s prohibition law, the Patna Police carried out a district-wide special operation on July 16 under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya K. Sharma. This operation led to the apprehension of 158 individuals who have been subsequently detained. Coordinated raids were conducted across various police station areas, including Maner, Ramkrishna Nagar, Agamkuan, Fatuha, Pachmahla, Malsalami, and Bikram.
The arrested individuals were wanted in connection with a range of serious criminal offenses, such as two murder cases, 21 attempted murder cases, an attack on a police team, 22 cases of liquor smuggling, and violations under the SC/ST Act. As part of the crackdown on illegal liquor activities, the police confiscated 2,438.05 liters of illicit liquor, comprising 1,726.05 liters of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 712 liters of country-made liquor. Additionally, the operation resulted in the seizure of 377 grams of cannabis (ganja), 11 grams of smack (heroin), seven vehicles allegedly used for smuggling, nine mobile phones, and Rs 15,010 in cash.
During the searches conducted at various locations, law enforcement recovered two firearms, four live cartridges, one magazine, and three spent cartridges. Apart from the arrests and seizures, the operation prioritized the execution of pending court orders. A total of 164 warrants, including 56 bailable warrants, 94 non-bailable warrants, and 14 property attachment warrants, were successfully executed, targeting absconding accused individuals.
SSP Kartikeya K. Sharma highlighted that this special drive reflects the ongoing efforts of the Patna Police to uphold public order, combat organized crime, and ensure strict enforcement of the state’s prohibition law. He underscored that similar operations will be ongoing in the future and urged citizens to promptly report criminal activities or illegal liquor operations in their neighborhoods to enable timely intervention.
