The Pentagon is set to send a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East within two weeks due to escalating tensions between the US and Iran. This carrier is expected to come from the US East Coast, as per US officials. The USS George H.W. Bush is currently engaged in training exercises off Virginia’s coast and may hasten these exercises for deployment.
If approved, this additional carrier will join the USS Abraham Lincoln already stationed in the region, marking the first time two carriers are present since March 2025. Talks between Tehran and Washington recently took place in Oman amidst the growing military presence near Iran. President Trump has hinted at the possibility of sending a second carrier group to the Middle East if diplomatic efforts fail.
During a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump emphasized the importance of ongoing negotiations with Iran. The leaders discussed regional issues, including Gaza, with Trump highlighting the strong relationship between the US and Israel. Trump expressed the need for continued diplomacy with Iran while keeping all options open for potential outcomes.
