The body of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was taken to his residence in Chandipur for the last rites. Rath’s associates and relatives accompanied the body after a post-mortem examination at Barasat Medical College and Hospital. A large crowd gathered outside his residence to pay their respects as his body, draped in the national flag, was honored by acquaintances and BJP supporters.
Senior BJP leaders from the district and newly elected legislators paid tribute to Rath in Chandipur. The body, initially placed near Rath’s residence, was later taken to his family home for the final rites. BJP supporters present demanded justice for Rath’s killing, which occurred in Madhyamgram on Wednesday night.
Rath was fatally shot by unidentified assailants in North 24 Parganas district. Senior BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, visited the hospital where Rath was pronounced dead. BJP workers protested outside, alleging involvement of miscreants linked to the Trinamool Congress. No arrests had been made in the case by Thursday evening.
West Bengal DGP S.N. Gupta visited the hospital and interacted with Rath’s family and BJP leaders. Police recovered the vehicles used in the crime, both with fake number plates. A Special Investigation Team is investigating the murder, analyzing CCTV footage from the area. The Trinamool Congress condemned Rath’s murder and called for a CBI probe.
Adhikari suggested Rath’s murder was part of a conspiracy related to Mamata Banerjee’s election loss and their close association. Despite this, he urged BJP workers to maintain calm in the situation.
