On India’s 77th Republic Day, philosopher Acharya Prashant emphasized that a Republic signifies more than just a Constitutional framework. He highlighted the importance of inner awakening among citizens for a nation’s strength. Prashant explained that being a Republic means rejecting external authorities like monarchy and theocracy.

He cautioned that while external authority can be rejected, individuals must also confront internal challenges. Prashant warned about the dangers of the ego and unexamined beliefs within oneself. He stressed that inner enemies, though invisible, can pose a significant threat to national life.

Prashant drew attention to the significance of the Preamble in the Indian Constitution. He described it as the spiritual heart of the Constitution, emphasizing the role of the people in determining their way of life. Prashant discussed the connection between inner and outer freedom, highlighting the importance of inner knowledge in achieving true freedom.

Examining the core ideals of the Constitution, Prashant noted that the ego often resists concepts like socialism, secularism, and fraternity. He explained how the ego’s desire for control and superiority can hinder the realization of these ideals. Prashant emphasized the need for inner light to imbue these principles with meaning.

Addressing the youth, Prashant underscored the importance of self-improvement for national greatness. He rejected violent forms of nationalism and advocated for a nationalism that benefits the world. Prashant concluded by emphasizing the significance of individual character in shaping a nation’s greatness.
