Former Indian cricketer Piyush Chawla commended Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) legend Sunil Narine, labeling him as ‘the best in the business’ following his exceptional display against Gujarat Titans (GT), which led KKR to a 29-run triumph at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. In a high-scoring match where 465 runs were scored in 40 overs, Narine shone with a remarkable spell of 2/29 in his four overs, aiding KKR in defending a substantial 247/2 and keeping their playoff aspirations alive.
KKR’s victory was fueled by explosive batting performances from Finn Allen (93), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (82 not out), and Cameron Green (52 not out), propelling them to a formidable total. Despite strong performances by Shubman Gill (85) and Jos Buttler (57) for GT, Narine’s pivotal breakthroughs turned the tide in KKR’s favor, altering the course of the game.
Chawla emphasized Narine’s exceptional ability to maintain control in the context of modern T20 cricket, hailing him as one of the standout bowlers in the format. According to Chawla, Narine’s economy rate, especially in a high-scoring era, sets him apart, showcasing his effectiveness in challenging situations.
Narine’s strategic brilliance in dismissing Gill, who was on course for a century, was particularly lauded by Chawla. By altering his angle and adopting an unconventional approach of going around the wicket to a right-hander, Narine successfully restricted Gill’s scoring opportunities, ultimately leading to his crucial wicket.
Narine’s impactful spell proved decisive as GT, despite a strong position at 177/1 after 16 overs, concluded their innings at 218/4, falling short in their pursuit of KKR’s total.
