Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stressed the importance of Indian entrepreneurs upholding quality standards when labeling products as ‘Made in India’. Goyal highlighted that quality is a national responsibility for these entrepreneurs, citing the example of Aqeel Panaruna from Ambur, Tamil Nadu, founder of Florence Shoe Company.
Aqeel Panaruna’s company manufactured a luxury Hugo Boss shoe labeled ‘Made in India’, which was noticed by an international customer at Cairo Airport. This incident showcased the global recognition of Indian craftsmanship and the impact of supporting local manufacturing on rural employment and women’s empowerment.
Goyal commended entrepreneurs like Aqeel for elevating the ‘Made in India’ label to signify trust, excellence, and national pride. He emphasized that such individuals are positioning ‘BRAND INDIA’ at the forefront of global standards, especially as India-UK trade relations strengthen.
The minister also engaged in discussions with Asia House and senior executives from global firms to enhance economic partnerships and explore future opportunities. Goyal highlighted India’s robust manufacturing ecosystem and the potential for deeper collaboration through initiatives like the India-UK CETA, aiming to unlock new avenues for growth and investments.
Goyal’s interactions extended to a luncheon meeting with UKIBC members and C-suite representatives from global organizations. The focus was on identifying new prospects, boosting investments, and fostering collaboration across sectors to enhance India’s global competitiveness and drive mutual growth.
