Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called on Indian firms to strengthen ties with their UK counterparts to capitalize on opportunities presented by the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). Speaking at the India-UK: Partners in Progress Business Plenary in London, Goyal emphasized the potential for increased bilateral trade, investment, technology partnerships, and resilient supply chains under the trade pact.
The event, attended by prominent industry representatives from both countries, hailed the CETA as a pivotal instrument for fostering economic cooperation between India and the UK. Participants highlighted the need for improved awareness of the agreement, especially among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), streamlined regulatory processes, and enhanced industry-to-industry collaborations to fully exploit the pact’s benefits.
During the gathering, Goyal launched four knowledge reports aimed at offering practical guidance to businesses on leveraging opportunities arising from the CETA. These reports include insights from various sectors such as healthcare, advanced manufacturing, clean energy, science and technology, services, and consumer goods, emphasizing the potential for deeper collaboration through innovation, investment, and commercial partnerships.
Wrapping up his two-day business engagements in the UK, Goyal engaged in an interactive session with the Indian business delegation, where participants shared insights and identified business prospects across different sectors. Additionally, he stressed the importance of Indian entrepreneurs recognizing their role as representatives of the country when labeling products as ‘Made in India,’ emphasizing the national responsibility for maintaining quality standards.
