Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met with EU Trade and Economic Security Commissioner Maros Sefcovic to discuss the status of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement. They explored ways to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, critical technologies, and supply chains.
Goyal and Sefcovic had previously met in March during the World Trade Organisation Ministerial Conference in Cameroon to review the FTA progress. They also discussed the ongoing efforts towards finalizing the agreement, following an announcement by PM Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in January 2026.
During his visit to Brussels, Goyal had a productive meeting with Bernd Lange, Chairman of the Committee on International Trade at the European Parliament. They talked about the potential benefits of the India-EU FTA for businesses and industries on both sides, aiming for a prosperous future.
Goyal’s discussions in Belgium included talks on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, technology, logistics, and workforce mobility. He also engaged with EU officials on strengthening collaboration in clean growth, climate action, and sustainable industrial development, focusing on areas like renewable energy, green hydrogen, and clean technologies.
